Positive affirmations are an extremely powerful way to help your child develop a strong mindset of positivity and abundance mindset which can help guard against setbacks and obstacles later on in life. Affirmations also contribute to the development of a stable mental paradigm and help to eliminate limiting thoughts that might have taken root.
The best time to start training your child to apply the Law of Attraction in their life is at a young age – when children are more susceptible to promptings and positive suggestions. They may not fully understand the concept, but powerful habits such as daily affirmations can be instill from a young age. Sadly, many parents don’t capitalize on this period of their child’s development.
One of the most defining moments of raising my child was when I saw him give up.
My boy was studying for his mathematics exam by doing some math practice tests and I could see that he was in slight distress. Tugging on his hair and fidgeting revealed he was getting more frustrated over a difficult problem.
Not wanting to butt in, I waited to see what he would do. I was also interested to see how would my kid handle disappointment.
What happened next really shocked me…
In frustration of not being able to solve the question, he threw down his pencil and exclaimed “I can’t do it!”.
Somehow the words hit me hard. Somehow my child had internalized his frustration in solving the problem and allowed it to shake his self-belief and ability to execute the task. If such negative beliefs could take root so easily, what more defense would he have against other obstacles that the future could bring?
When children face struggles at a young age, the biggest danger is not that they are unable to solve it. Rather, the biggest peril is that they have their self-believe broken and start to form negative thoughts about their own capabilities.
I vowed from that point to instill a spirit of persistence within my child, as well as kindle a burning desire to accomplish great things in his life. Never would he believe that anything was “impossible” again.
Do Affirmations for Kids Work?
Your thoughts are the foundation of all that you do. The Law of Attraction works for kids too!
Whilst it’s important for parents to display love, affection and support for their children, it is equally (if not more) important that your child learn’s to create a strong mindset and internal environment within themselves.
I’m sure you’ve heard of this analogy before: If you give a man a fish, he eats for a day; If you teach a man to fish, he eats for a lifetime.
Same thing goes for children.
Sooner or later, your child will have to do exposed to setbacks or obstacles that may threaten to tear them down. We can’t always be there to shelter them from the storm. Positive affirmations serve to reinforce positive beliefs and enables children to handle setbacks much better.
Developing a habit of reciting positive affirmations also empowers your child to take control of his or her belief systems from a young age.
How to Apply Affirmations for Kids
Now that you’ve been convinced of the power of affirmations. Where do you start next?
As a parent, you know best what areas of your child’s development need strengthening and positive reinforcement. For instance if you feel that your child struggles with confidence in speaking, affirmations like ” ” can really give them the much needed boost.
It’s important to focus on the positive attribute and not the negative belief.
I personally believe that this is one of the most important things you must get right with affirmations. Don’t say things like “I am not stupid”, or “I am not bad at math”. Even though the intention is to overcome that negative belief, if you repeatedly recite these lines which contain the negative belief it could backfire instead.
The best way is to ensure that you only focus on the positive aspects. So if your child is struggling with math, you want to say something like “I love math. I can overcome any problem that I encounter with a calm mind”.
Try to keep affirmations simple and not too complex so that your child can understand the entire meaning of the words.
A great way to apply affirmations is early in the morning upon waking (you can incorporate it into their morning routine). I find starring into the mirror and reciting affirmations just before brushing teeth is a really good way to start the day.
Another good time is just before bed. If you have a bedtime routine for your child then add those affirmations in as well!
Whatever it is, just make sure you find a way to fit them into your schedule.

I am strong and confident.
I am safe and guarded.

These affirmations are short and concise so that its easier for younger kids to remember and recite them. I recommend not making affirmations to long as shorter verses are sufficient to drive the point home.
Some Tips For Crafting Affirmations For Your Kid
You can start with “I Am” affirmations. These are the easiest to create but also bring about very powerful effects. Keep your affirmations in present tense so that your child’s perception is focused on the “now”. Whatever wrongs or bad things in the past don’t matter, because now “I am powerful. I am blessed. I can do anything.”
Don’t worry too much about getting it right. The best thing to do is just start doing and take it from there. I recommend coming up with around 3-5 standard phrases that will form your “main affirmation ritual”, and then add in any others along the way as and when you see fit.
Adults need affirmations as well, not only kids!
