How to Use the Law of Attraction to Quit Smoking

Quitting cigarettes for good is no easy feat! That’s what I found out when I first started on my 28 day “challenge”. (This is perhaps one of the only rare times where you’ll find me encouraging people to “quit”!)

This is the story of how I applied the Law of Attraction to quit nicotine addiction for good.

This post isn’t meant to put smokers in any bad light. I’ve been an avid smoker for many years now so this story is more about my personal struggle and how I managed to use the law of attraction to overcome my addiction to nicotine.

Before I decided to quit once and for all, I was a smoker for over 10 years and it had become almost second nature to me. I had made several “attempts” in the past to stop but never really made it past a couple of weeks before giving in to temptation once again.

Deep down I knew I was addicted, but I somehow always managed to rationalize that I could stop at any time and that I was in control. In reality, it was more of the opposite.

I finally decided cut cigarettes altogether when I realized that my body was so dependent on them to function.

I had attended a 1 week retreat where I decided not to smoke in order to detox the body (I wasn’t actually intending of cutting them at first). When I return my body was in full withdrawal mode – I was constantly lethargic with low energy levels and my body was very fidgety. At times I would also get moody and depressed easily.

At first I didn’t realize it was the lack of cigarettes, I was trying and identify the source of my low vibration and that’s when I knew that I had lost control. It was time to put my law of attraction techniques to manifest a new tangible and healthy goal for myself.

Mindset (Mental Determination)

No great feat can be accomplished without strong mental determination to see it succeed.

Applying the law of attraction is about changing our mental paradigm and hence influence our actions so that we can easily retain control and eventually stop smoking altogether.

Addiction is really a mental trap that we get ourselves into. Trying to quit smoking is no easy feat. Regardless of whatever vice, the power lies within the “addict” and ONLY him to stop committing the same act.

Your mental disposition is everything when it comes to quitting. From the very moment I decided not to take up another cigarette, I told myself that I was now a non-smoker. This was my first step to eliminating cigarettes altogether. The only thing separating you from being a smoker or a non-smoker is merely a cigarette in hand.

I started to visualize a better healthier life for myself and my loved ones who would now benefit from the lack of deadly second-hand smoke present in their lives. I saw the perfect health that I had always wanted and living out the rest of my days with full control over my body.

Stop Gradually or go Cold Turkey?

Both methods have varying results for different people and I know of people who have tried both methods with success, but here’s my two cents worth.

I have always been an advocate of the do or die attitude – either you go strong or don’t do it at all. That means that I completely stopped altogether, cold turkey.

There was no “lets just stop for awhile and see how it goes” or “maybe we’ll just reduce it to 3 sticks a day”. It was either I remained a smoker and addicted to nicotine, or I stopped it altogether at once.

This may seem a little extreme, but I assure you that there’s a strong psychological effect of this choice that resonates well with the law of attraction. If you decide to cut slowly, your mental disposition is still that of a smoker. This means that the law of attraction will act accordingly to this disposition.

In contrast by making a decision to cease smoking altogether, your subconscious mind accepts this powerful mental frame and will continue to allow the body to act as such.

Develop a Strong Reason Why

The key to developing persistence to stop smoking is to have a strong reason why. What are you doing it all for?

Are you quitting smoking to have:

  • A healthier lifestyle
  • Take back full control of your body
  • Set a good example to your family and kids
  • Prevent your family from being exposed to second-hand smoke
  • Prevent smoking-related diseases
  • Save money from buying cigarettes
  • Honor a request or promise to a loved one

It could be one or a combination of these reasons. Whatever the case, your reason will set the foundation for success in achieving this goal.

Don’t Give the Habit Any Attention

Some people suggest affirmations at the start of each day, or . Personally I find that these may be counter-intuitive because they keep reminding you of the fact that you are “trying” to stop smoking.

Remember the law of attraction works upon the dominant thoughts within your head! If you are constantly thinking of the “lack of smoking”, it is likely to have an adverse effect on someone who has just stopped.

Turn your focus to other healthy goals and habits. What I recommend you do is exactly what I did – decide that you are now a non-smoker and simply act like one. That means not even paying heed to smoking at all.

Also don’t worry or even pay heed to any withdrawals. I know some people who would google “symptoms of smoking withdrawal” and memorize each one by heart in anticipation for what is to come. That’s a sure-proof way of getting the law of attraction to work against you.

The Law of Attraction is a powerful magnet. Turn it instead to other goals and important desires in your life that deserve your attention. I found that the less I think of withdrawals, the much better you fare in facing them.

Instead of thinking that you are “quitting”, accept that you have already “quit”. Anything else that happens is simply a consequence of the choice.

Get a Partner to Hold You Accountable

Never underestimate the psychological and emotional benefits of having strong support. If you have someone that you trust who can help to hold you accountable for your goals and encourage you in your endeavors, then reach out to them for help!

For me my pillar of support was my wife who was with me through every step of the journey. Even when things got hard and I got a little moody at the start, she put up with the grumpiness and never failed to raise my positive vibrations.

How I quit smoking using the law of attraction

And that’s how I managed to finally quit my addiction after so many years! My advice to any trying to quit as well would be to just take the leap of faith and don’t worry too much. Focus your positive energies on the benefits of a smoke-free life and I’m confident that you can do it too.
